In the seaport of Bremerhaven, one of the most challenging terminal construction projects currently were built in Europe is finished. Container Terminal 4 extend the riverside quay by 1681 metres to a total usable length of 4720 metres. The terminal has a hinterland depth of 570 metres, which means that the total port area is growing by roughly 90 hectares. Construction takes around 4 years.

The new terminal structure is located in tidal mudflats and extends onto the dyke foreland only in the south. In the north, the building site touches the boundary to Lower Saxony. The new quay follows the Weser fairway, which explains the 10-degree twist towards the west at kilometre 73.1.

The construction of CT 4 involves the following work:

· Rerouting the watercourse of Weddewarder Tief
· Replacing the unstable subsoil for the quay
· Installing sheet piling on the waterside
· Backfilling the quay and pile driving on shore
· Concrete, steel and ancillary work
· Infilling the hinterland
· Building new dykes
