North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven GmbH & Co. achieves 2.000.000 lifts in 2011.

Bremerhaven, December 28, 2011. Today, NTB achieved a new volume record. The 2.000.000 moves a year threshold was broken. Never in the history of NTB were so many containers handled in one year. “We had a bit of luck at the beginning of the year” stated Jan Gelderland, Managing Director of NTB “Because of the severe winter conditions in the Baltic Sea a lot of the cargo was transhipped from Line-haul vessels to the highest Ice Class vessels that could reach the ports in the Baltic Sea.” “This meant a lot of additional volume for us.” 

The 2.000.000 container was a Maersk container with German export bound to the Far East. This did not come as a surprise as Maersk is the biggest customer of NTB.

Maersk Senior General Manager Operation / Intermodal Andreas Kellner stated “We were very glad that the NTB personnel took on the challenge during this severe winter period.” “As one of the few ports in Europe they continued to work and Maersk Line rewarded the same with routing much more of the Baltic Sea transhipment volume over Bremerhaven.”

“We are very satisfied with the performance of NTB; they perform at one of the highest productivity levels in Western Europe.” Mr. Andreas Kellner continued. “The Maersk Line Team works very closely together with the NTB Team to ensure the highest service levels to our customers.”

“We did not expect to reach the 2.000.000 lifts in 2011. We nevertheless did as the volume at the end of the year was above expectation. Because of this we did not plan a Party, but a bottle of Champagne was quickly found” stated Jan Gelderland. “I am very proud of all of our Personnel that worked so hard to achieve this record.”  “With great pride we write this record in the 2011 history books and look forward to 2012. We are confident we will master the challenges ahead as we have great customers and a super team to work with.”
