The entrance to the lock at the fishing port, Fischereihafen, poses a serious nautical challenge for large vessels. bremenports is making use of the construction of a new mole at the north of the Geeste estuary to significantly improve access to the port and thus give this industrial area the chance to raise throughput figures.
The political decision has not yet been made on whether or not to build a new quay at the former airfield.
bremenports is also planning to put an end to the many long years in which the railway more or less stood still at Fischereihafen. New tracks are being laid to enable the business enterprises at the port to switch over their transports to eco-friendly rail.
