THE PORT AS AN ENERGY HUB

This age of renewable energy places demands on the ports and faces them with particular challenges.  Even after the optimum development of wind and solar plant, imported energy will still be needed to meet 80 per cent of Germany’s energy requirements. The ports of Bremen are already preparing to fulfil their role as a future energy hub. Whether importing hydrogen in containers, or recycling and repowering offshore wind turbines: fundamental research projects are currently clarifying how the ports of Bremen can contribute to a reliable climate-neutral energy supply in future.
